Dear Families,
Welcome to Distance Learning for Room 12! Beginning March 30, 2020, all PVSD teachers launched a model that includes synchronous (in real time) and/or asynchronous (recorded and posted after) experiences. Our distance learning will include instruction through video links, tutorials, or Zoom and will be coupled with independent work that builds on this instruction. It will be important for families to develop schedules that work for them. Sample schedules are provided on the PVSD website. Please check out this nifty guide with 8 tips for positive distance learning.
Keep in mind that the goals of distance learning are to help keep your child engaged in learning and to move forward with the learning process while making sure students can maintain their skills. I will be providing various forms of feedback through the distance learning process as we move forward.
I will conduct Zoom meetings with my parents and students. The dates, times, and links are emailed and in the Google Classroom.
I realize that this is a challenging time for you and your family. Distance Learning is a new teaching format for all of us, and it will take time for both teachers, students and parents to adjust and be comfortable with the new structure. Parents/guardians, and students will have questions, and we will endeavor to provide support. Please feel free to contact me either through (DOJO, email, Google Classroom) to ensure the learning activities are being completed, or if clarification is needed.
IMPORTANT TIPS...students should check for new assignments and lessons that are posted onto Google Classroom each week. A daily schedule is also posted each day. Students should complete any work assigned by me for the week. While students are at school for six hours each day in a traditional school model, distance learning will not be structured in this same way.
For my classroom, I will be providing lessons and activities that are California state standards aligned and supported by the adopted curriculum and supplemental standards- aligned materials for PVSD. I will also be available to help students in a variety of ways, either through individual check ins, Class Zooms, or small group Zooms.. Either way, I want all of my students to feel connected to meaningful learning with their friends!
ZOOMING ALONG...we will be using Zoom to help with our face to face time. In order to make these sessions the best that they can be, I would ask that you review this guide for Zoom to ensure positive sessions with our classmates.
Thank you, Parents, for ALL you are doing to make this new adventure an exciting and positive experience for all.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Griffin
